Web Initiated Payforit Purchases With The Charge To Account Gateway
Overview
In addition to WAP billing, the Payforit scheme rules also make provision for web initiated purchases. If you are not familiar with Payforit, please refer to our introduction to the scheme.
Web Payforit is designed for purchases where WAP billing is not available, such as when an end user is browsing your site from a computer or from a smartphone with a Wi-Fi connection. The end user is automatically presented with the Web Payforit pages to give the best chance of successful billing. These pages have a different workflow from WAP Payforit in order to collect the mobile phone number and confirm that the end user is in possession of the mobile phone.
Note that the Charge To Account Gateway defaults to displaying pages with a WAP look and feel for best compatibility with smartphones; this is called Web Lite. If the end user is using a PC, you can choose to show them standard web pages by specifying channel=web in the request.
Enabling Web Payforit
Web Payforit functionality is available for all existing Payforit Partners as standard. Partners new to Payforit should contact their account manager for a test account.
Workflow
You can select one of two workflow methods to collect the end user's mobile phone number and confirm that they are in possession of the mobile phone. This is configurable for each brand. By default, the Charge To Account Gateway will use the MT Web Payforit method.
Mobile Terminated (MT) Web Payforit
The end user is directed to the MX Telecom hosted payment page from the content provider's website. The initial page collects the end user's mobile phone number, then sends a unique payment code via SMS to the mobile phone. The end user must enter the payment code on the site in order to validate the transaction. Only then can a charge be applied to their mobile phone bill.
See MT Workflow for more information.
Mobile Originated (MO) Web Payforit
The end user is directed to the MX Telecom hosted payment page from the content provider's website. The initial page provides the end user with a unique payment code that they must send via SMS to the Short Code 78870 (also provided on the webpage). Once the Charge To Account Gateway receives the payment code, it can initiate a charge to the end user's mobile phone bill.
See MO Workflow for more information.
