Big Brother delivered to 3G handsets live
London - 13th January 2005
3G mobile phone users can now watch Big Brother live on their handsets, thanks to a new initiative from Endemol and MX Telecom. Users of the mobile network "3" can video call a short code on their phones to start viewing live footage of the Big Brother House. The video is the same as the internet stream, and is thus available 24/7.
MX Telecom has implemented the end to end solution, which takes the video stream from the house, transcodes it in real time for optimum quality, and delivers it to 3G handsets. There is also an interactive menu, meaning that after users dial into the video short code, they can select different options using the numbers on their keypad. Options include recording a video diary, viewing other people's video diaries, and leaving comments about the show.
"We are delighted to have been selected for this project," commented Mark Fitzgerald, Managing Director of MX Telecom. "We very much view video short codes as the future of mobile video, and look forward to a widespread demonstration of the technology's power and heightened user experience."
