First Use of Inbound MMS on UK TV

The BBC has become the first UK broadcaster to launch inbound MMS functionality for one of its shows. The new nightly Johnny Vaughan program "Live at Johnny's", which launched on BBC3 on Monday, is integrating user generated content tightly into the editorial format.
Viewers will be encouraged to send in photos and images through MMS, which could then be showed during the "Theme of the Day" section. The first show asked people to send in amusing photos, which added to the show's comic appeal.
The technology which delivers the MMS message to the BBC is being provided by MX Telecom, a London-based wireless solutions provider. After having taken a photo with their camera phone, viewers of the show can send an MMS containing the image into a virtual mobile number, which looks just like a normal mobile number.

The use of inbound MMS on UK TV is a first, but it is expected that other broadcasters will be following suit as awareness of the technology grows.
