Case Study: Integrated Location Services

Introduction

Many businesses rely on being located near to their customers in order to deliver a service. However, a postal address is no use to a mobile consumer, who could be using their phone anywhere in the country. The ability to pinpoint the location of a consumer in real time makes many services easier to deliver and opens the possibility for several completely new services.

Concept

A company with regional offices across the UK advertises a single phone number which will automatically route mobile callers through to the nearest office, or a high street brand launches an SMS advertising campaign letting customers know where their nearest store is. Linking the MX Telecom Location Based Services (LBS) Gateway, Interactive Voice Response platform and SMS Gateway, it is possible to receive a voice call, locate the caller, route their call in real time to the nearest call centre, and send them a reverse billing message to charge them for using the service.

Connect2Taxi and Connect2Rescue

By dialing a single number from anywhere in the UK, users are automatically connected to their nearest minicab agency or breakdown service. MX Telecom provides an integrated service to location-enable the customer's business.
